Abstract

Fraction No.11 was purified by fractional crystallization to yield 55mg of brown coloured amorphous powder of Compound-I which was characterized and confirmed as Ibogamine by TLC, melting point, Infrared Spectroscopy, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and Mass spectrometry. HCl (1:1), iodine solution for detection of constituents like lignin, starch and calcium oxalate crystals and analysed microscopically. Characterization of the Isolated Compounds: The compounds isolated were subjected to various instrumental techniques for characterization such as TLC, Melting point, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy: (Ш NMR &13C NMR), Infra Red (IR) Spectroscopy and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). Spectral Characteristics of Compound-I: Compound-I was found to be soluble in ethanol, methanol and water with melting point of 162 - 163 °C. Composition: C(81.38%) H(8.63%) N(9.99%), Molar Refractivity was 86.82 ± 0.4 cm3 , Molar Volume: 235.7 ± 5.0 cm3, Index of Refraction: 1.657 ± 0.03, Surface Tension: 53.8 ± 5.0 dyne/cm, Density: 1.18 ± 0.1 g/cm3, Polarizability was found to be 34.42 ± 0.5 10-24 cm3.
