Nanoparticle-based drug delivery for Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s disease is the mostcommonformof dementia in the elderly population, and affects 26.6 million people worldwide. Medical advancements have increasedlife expectancy which, in turn, increases the risk for Alzheimer’s disease. Hence, there is an urgent need for the development of new techniques for early diagnosis,new drugs for treatment and novel delivery systems to deliver drugs to specific sites at predetermined rates for this important geriatric problem. This chapter reviews the various nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems for treating Alzheimer’s disease.
