Abstract

The present day trend is to produce a new class of metal matrix composites termed as Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites (HMMCs) where more than one type, shape and size of the reinforcements are used to obtain superior mechanical properties. The present investigation aims at producing cast aluminium alloy/ Quartz /Carbon (Al/SiO2/C) hybrid metal matrix composites in moulds containing different Chill Materials by dispersing particles in molten aluminium alloy. The dispersoid being added ranges from 3 to 12wt% in steps of 3wt%. The resulting composite cast specimens were prepared as per ASTM standards and tested for their mechanical properties.
